Uncanny X-Men #172-173: Engaged Couple Should Just Communicate

The X-Men have all travelled to Japan to attend Logan's wedding (minus Scott, who is still in Anchorage). Unfortunately, things don't go swimmingly. Unfortunately Silver Samurai is apparently Mariko's half-brother, and claims he should become family head and not her. He and Viper poison the X-Men (except for Storm, as Wolverine stops her before drinking it and before he himself is knocked out).

Mariko, rather than telling them what is going on, decides to go on her own to negotiate with Silver Samurai, with a person named Nabatone Yokuse acting as the arbiter. Turns out though that Nabatone was really Viper. Oh but the Mariko was really Yukio (who had replaced Mariko's driver covertly). Also Storm shows up to protect Mariko who was still in the car, and help Yukio confront Silver Samurai.

Storm starts to notice her powers are getting a bit more out of control, as she is losing a bit of her "perfect control over her emotions" since the Morlock stuff, and accidentally blows up the building that was conveniently holding explosives. Yukio saves her, while Silver Samurai escapes with Viper.

Back in Anchorage, Scott is looking into Madelyne's past to try to find a connection to Phoenix, and Alex calls him out on it. After that quick scene we rush back to Tokyo, where Wolverine (due to his healing factor) and Rogue (due to having Carol's powers) have recovered, while the rest of the X-Men are still in intensive care. They go off to try to find out where Viper is (though Wolverine is reluctant as Rogue you know, stole one of his friends memories). But afterwards they realize it was a trap, they were being drawn away from the hospital.

They rush back to fight, Rogue takes on a bunch of assassins while Wolverine takes on Silver Samurai. But then Viper shows up with a ray gun and Rogue jumps in front of Logan and takes the brunt of it until it overloads. She is dying, but Wolverine respects her attempts to be a better person, and lets her take his powers to heal herself.

Yukio, Storm, and Mariko though make their way back to the hospital on foot and Storm is starting to find hurting her attackers fun. They make it back safely.

Now it's time for a wedding! Scott and Madelyne have arrived, and everyone is shocked at her resemblance to Jean. Storm arrives with her now iconic mohawk look, which Kitty hates.

And then Mariko declares there will be no wedding cause "Wolverine isn't worthy". And the story ends. (Oh also there is a mysterious man in the background manipulating things, but we'll get to that in the next issues).

X-Tra Notes: The story is a pretty fun adventure, introduces Mohawk storm proper, establishes the Wolverine/Rogue relationship, and more. But there is one thing I do hate about it: So many issues could be fixed if Mariko would just TELL LOGAN WHAT IS GOING ON.
